Medical convoys funded by the Etisalat Foundation for Development and Community Care (2018)
Four medical convoys were implemented in Dakahlia and Port Said governorates, with the aim of early detection of heart diseases prevalence in the adult citizens and rheumatic fever prevalence among school students (6 to 16 years of age); and raising both groups’ awareness about how to prevent diseases in general and heart diseases in particular. The results of the convoys were as follows:
- As regards health awareness: Awareness sessions was provided to 1,838 male and female students, in both governorates, on how to remain healthy and prevent heart disease.
- As regards the medical services (examination, diagnosis and treatment):
In Dakahlia Governorate:
- 634 adult citizens were medically examined: 15 of them were referred to the National Heart Institute for further treatment; and 40 received free medications as preliminary treatment, and then they were referred to the public hospitals in the governorate for follow-up and further treatment.
- 1,152 students were examined: 71 medical cases were referred to the schools’ health insurance for periodic ultrasound follow-up and appropriate treatment was provided according to the discretion of the specialist doctor.
In Port Said Governorate:
- 298 adult citizens were examined: one case was transferred to the National Heart Institute to have an open-heart surgery; and fiveCases were given free medications from the convoy as preliminary treatment, and they were sent to public hospitals in the governorate for follow-up and further treatment.
- 685 school students were examined: 8 cases were referred to the School Health Insurance Hospitals for periodic follow-up and appropriate treatment at the discretion of the specialist doctor.
